VIOLIN COMPETITION REPERTOIRE First Round 1. One of the following works for solo violin by J.S. Bach: Adagio and Fugue from Sonata in G-Minor, BWV 1001, Grave and Fugue from Sonata in A-Minor, BWV 1003, Adagio and Fugue from Sonata in C-Major, BWV 1005, or Chaconne from Partita in D-Minor, BWV 1004. 2. Two Capriccios by Paganini at competitor’s choice. 3. A first movement, with cadenza, from one of the following concertos by Mozart: № 3 in G major KV 216, № 4 in D major KV 218 or № 5 in A major KV 219 (accompanied by the piano). 4. One of the following works by Khachaturian: "Dance" B-dur op.1, or "Song-Poem". Second Round (total duration – up to 60') 1. One of the following sonatas for the violin and piano which may be performed with the score: Beethoven: № 3 in E-flat Major, op. 12/3; № 5 in F-Major, op. 24; № 7 in C-Minor, op. 30/2; № 9 in A-Major, op. 47; № 10 in G-Major, op.96. Brahms: № 1 in G-Major, op. 78; № 2 in A-Major, op.100; № 3 in D-Minor, op. 108. Schubert: Fantasia in C-Major, op. 159, D 934; Duet (sonata) in A-Major, op. 162, D 574. Schumann: № 1 in A-Minor, op. 105. Grieg: № 2 in G-Major, op. 13; № 3 in C-Minor, op.45. Franck: Sonata A-Major Debussy: G-Minor Ravel: G-Major R. Strauss: E-flat major, op. 18 Bartok: № 1, 1921 y.; № 2, 1922 y. Prokofiev: № 1 in F-Minor, op. 80; № 2 in D-Major, op. 94 bis. Shostakovich: op. 134 Babadjanyan: B flat Major 2. A work by a XX century composer on the participant’s choice. (not less 5') 3. Virtuosic composition by one of the following composers: Paganini, Ernst, Sarasate, Wieniawski, Saint-Saens, Ravel, Ysaye, Zimbalist (Fantasia on themes from the opera ‘The Golden Cockerel’ by Rimsky-Korsakov), Castelnuovo-Tedesco (paraphrase of Rossini’s opera ‘Il Barbiere di Siviglia’), Waxman (‘Carmen-Fantasia’), Milstein (‘Paganiniana’). 4. One of the following Sonatas: Boccherini - Sonata No.6 A major Francoeur - Sonata E major Valentini - Sonata e minor Locatelli - Sonata D major 4. Tchaikovsky - Pezzo capriccioso Second Round (total duration – up to 60') 1. One of the following sonatas for the cello and piano which may be performed with the score: Beethoven - Sonata op. 69 A major or Sonata op. 102 C major Schubert - Sonata “Arpeggione” a minor Brahms - Sonata op. 38 e minor Grieg - Sonata a minor Debussy - Sonata d minor Prokofiev - Sonata op. 113 C major Shostakovich - Sonata op. 40 d minor Britten - Sonata C major 2. One virtuoso piece on the participant’s choice. 4.
